Stickers are one of those quietly brilliant toddler tools that earn their place in any craft collection. The peeling, the placing, the decision-making - it's all beautifully within a young toddler's capability, which means they can do this almost entirely by themselves. Set up a sticker scene - a blank sky waiting for star stickers, an ocean outline waiting for fish, a garden waiting for flowers - and watch a toddler work with the most serious and satisfied concentration. It looks simple. It is simple. And it's absolutely wonderful.

Why This Activity Works for Little Ones

Peeling stickers is genuinely challenging for little fingers and excellent for fine motor development - the pinching, peeling and precise placement all require significant finger coordination.

Sticker scenes also introduce early storytelling and imaginative thinking as toddlers begin to make decisions about placement and build their own little worlds. It's also one of the most independently achievable crafts for this age group, which does wonderful things for confidence and self-esteem.

Activity Details

Age Range: 18 months – 3 years

Time: 20–40 minutes

Mess Level: No mess at all ✨

Supervision: Nearby supervision

What You'll Need

  • A collection of sticker sheets - animals, stars, dots, flowers, transport all work beautifully

  • A base scene drawn simply on card - a sky, an ocean, a garden, a farm

  • Or simply a blank piece of paper - let toddlers create their own scene from scratch

  • Optional: crayons to add details around the stickers afterwards

How To Do It

  1. Draw or print a simple scene on a piece of card - a blue sky with a sun, a green meadow, a simple ocean outline. Keep it very simple.

  2. Set out the sticker sheets - choose themes that match the scene.

  3. Show toddler how to peel a sticker and let them take over entirely.

  4. Let them place stickers wherever they choose - upside down, overlapping, in clusters - all perfect.

  5. For older toddlers, invite them to tell you about their scene as they work - the stories are wonderful.

  6. Once finished, add their name and date and display proudly.

Kim's Tips 💕

  • Larger stickers are much easier for younger toddlers to peel and place - start big and go smaller as dexterity develops.

  • Foam stickers with a little thickness are easier to peel than flat stickers for little fingers.

  • The scenes toddlers create are always more imaginative and wonderful than anything you could direct - let them lead completely.

  • A set of dot stickers in rainbow colours and a blank piece of paper is endlessly versatile and always a hit.

  • These make a wonderful quiet activity in a bag for visits, travel or waiting rooms.
