Early Childhood (4-6 Years)
Early childhood - starting school, finding their wings, and still wanting you right there beside them
There is something so beautifully particular about a child between four and six. Old enough to have real opinions, real humour and real conversations - and yet still so completely in love with the people they belong to. They want to help in the kitchen, to make things with their hands, to run and climb and discover. They're starting school and learning to read and figuring out who they are. And in the middle of all of that growing, they still want to curl up beside you and have you show them how to do things.
This is a wonderful age to be around. And it's a wonderful age to invest in - because the activities and experiences you share with a child between four and six leave marks that last a lifetime.
This page is filled with ideas across five areas of life with a 4β6 year old - baking and cooking together, arts and crafts, nature and outdoor play, learning through play, and connection activities that are really just beautiful excuses to spend time together. Some are for a rainy afternoon. Some are for a sunny backyard. Some are for a long school holiday visit and some are for a single quiet hour.
All of them are simple. All of them are meaningful. And all of them are things a child this age will remember.

My grandson and I loved the mess free finger painting! Such a wonderful idea to save on the messy fingers and furniture, but with the same excitement.
