Seven to ten is one of the most interesting ages there is. They can do so much now - follow a proper recipe, build something real, write a story, solve a puzzle, hold a conversation that genuinely surprises you. They have opinions, passions and a sense of humour that has started to be genuinely funny. They care about doing things well. They want to be taken seriously. And underneath all of that growing capability and emerging independence, they still want to be with you - they just might not say so quite as loudly as they used to.

This is the age for proper projects. For baking that involves real technique. For creative challenges that take more than an afternoon. For games where everyone is genuinely trying to win. For conversations that go somewhere unexpected. For experiences that feel like real adventures rather than activities designed for children.

It's also - and this is the part that matters most - the age where the time you invest in connection pays dividends for years to come. The traditions you start now, the experiences you share, the things you make and do together - these are the things a 7–10 year old carries into their teenage years and beyond. The relationship you build now is the foundation for everything that comes after.
